LESA Carmo TT: Tanisi, Wesley win double crowns
The ninth edition of the Loyola Ex-Students Association (LESA), Margao All-Goa Major Ranking Table Tennis tournament was held at Loyola school hall on October 14. This is also the eighth edition as Carmo Memorial Table Tennis.
The tournament got underway at 8.30am with the qualifying round. Later the competition got hotter with the cream of table tennis vying for the crowns in the mini cadet, cadet and sub-junior categories. Tanisi Kirtani won a double crown in the cadet girls and sub-junior girls categories and Wesley DoRosario (Fomento Resources) won the cadet boys and sub-junior boys categories. Tanisi beat Prutha Parrikar 11-4, 11-8, 11-10 to win the cadet crown while she came back from two sets down to beat Urmila Mense 11-13, 9-11, 12-10, 11-8, 11-5 in a five set thriller to clinch the sub-junior crown.  In the cadet boys finals Wesley (Fomento Resources) got the better of Varun Ghangodkar 11-2, 11-7, 11-5 while in the sub junior finals he got the better of the challenge from Shidhant Parekh 11-4, 11-6, 7-11 and 12-10.
In the mini cadet (boys) category, Vaidic Shrivastava beat Neelay Kamat 11-3, 11-6, 11-8 to claim the mini cadet (girls) title while Aditi Chodancar beat Tanvi Naik 11-5, 11-9, 11-9.
In the quarter finals of the mini cadet girls category Aditi Sawardekar beat Nicole Gomindes 11-1, 11-3, 11-2 while Aditi Chodankar beat Anaika Afonso 11-8, 11-8, 11-5. Shenaya Javeri beat Sanisha Shetye 11-2, 11-8, 11-4 and Tanvi Naik beat Ravisha Kudchadkar 9-11, 9-11, 11-5, 11-6, 11-9. In the semifinal Aditi Chodancar beat Aditi Sawardekar 11-5, 11-3, 11-4 while Tanvi Naik beat Shanaya Javeri 11-7, 6-11, 11-9, 10-12, 11-9.
In the quarter finals of the mini cadet boys category Vaidik Shrivastava beat Yash Harlankar 11-6, 11-2, 11-2 while Jaden Monteiro beat Aidan Furtado 11-9, 11-9, 11-7. Shantesh Mapxekar beat Stephen D’Costa 11-2, 11-7, 9-11, 11-2 and Neelay Kamat beat Naguesh Verenkar 11-3, 11-1, 11-9. In the semifinal Neelay Kamat beat Santesh Mapxekar 12-10, 8-11, 11-9, 11-9 and Vaidic Shrivastava beat Jayden Monteiro 11-3, 11-4, 11-4.
In the cadet girls quarterfinals Tanisi Kirtani beat Ibtisan Zulekha 11-2, 11-6, 11-3 while Rithika Ghanti beat Tanvi Naik 11-4, 11-3, 11-10. Nandita Das beat Ravisha Kudchadkar 11-9, 11-6, 11-10 and Prutha Parrikar beat Deanne Pacheco 11-3, 11-4, 11-5. In the semifinals Tanisi beat Rithika 11-1, 11-1, 11-4 and Prutha beat Nandita 9-11, 11-5, 11-6.
In the cadet boys category quarterfinals Wesley (Fomento Resources) beat Shaan Javeri 11-5, 11-3, 11-9 while Mandar Joshi beat Atharva Nadkarni 14-12, 11-9, 11-3. Varun Ghangodkar beat Karl Gomindes 11-4, 11-5, 11-9 and Vaidic Shrivastava beat Shushwat Mapxecar 11-5, 11-8, 11-5. In the semifinal Wesley beat Mandar Joshi 11-5, 11-7, 11-4 and Varun beat Vaidic 11-6, 11-2, 3-11, 12-10.
The quarterfinals in the sub junior girls category saw the excitement continue with Urmila Mense beat Prutha Parrikar 11-5, 11-3, 11-8 while Arantxa Noronha beat Utkarsh Shivani 13-15, 11-8, 11-7, 11-13, 11-7. Komal Salgaokar beat Pranalee Sonawane 11-6, 11-6, 11-8 and Tanisi Kirtani beat Nandita Das 11-7, 11-7, 11-9. In the semifinal Urmila Mense beat Arantxa Noronha 11-4, 11-6, 11-7 while Tanisi Kirtani beat Komal Salgaokar 11-5, 11-6, 8-11, 11-5.
The sub junior boys category quarterfinals Wesley (Fomento Resources) beat Amey Naik 11-5, 11-6, 11-8 and Sidhant Parekh beat Rutuz Sonawane 13-11, 11-8, 11-9, Yash Salgaocar beat Keval Tamankar 11-7, 11-7, 11-9 and Pranav Naik beat Maguesh Sakordekar 12-10, 11-7. In the semifinals Neelay Kamat beat Santesh Mangueshkar 12-10, 8-11, 11-9, 11-9 while Vaidic Shrivastava beat Jayden Monteiro 11-3, 11-4, 11-4.
Other results mini cadet boys Nihal Virginkar lost to Naguesh Verenkar 11-6, 3-11, 3-11, 3-11 and Yash Halarnkar beat Vedant Rivonkar 11-4,11-7, 11-8. Cadet boys Yash Halarnkar lost to Jayz Gomes 11-9, 13-15, 6-11, 8-11 while in the sub junior boys Vaidic Shrivastava beat Keegan Soares 11-8, 13-11, 11-6.
Elvis Gomes, Executive Director of Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) was the chief guest while former national player Noel Noronha was the guest of honour. The occasion was also graced by Fr William Rodrigues SJ, principal and Fr Basil Vago SJ vice principal of Loyola high school and Ashok Mhambre, chief referee and Secretary Goa Table Tennis Association (GTTA). Also present were Emanuel Furtado, Secretary LESA, Dr Lewis D’Silva, Treasurer LESA. In his address, Elvis Gomes was happy to note that the tournament, unlike the norm, ended with a girls match which was the most exciting match of the day. He also informed about the efforts being made by the government to establish a tie-up with a Russian sports university, so that we could send promising youngsters to turn into excellent sportspersons there. Elvis Gomes expressed happiness that he was able to watch table tennis after a long time.



President of LESA Francisco Xavier da Costa welcomed while Colin Savio Coelho proposed the vote of thanks. The winners were awarded trophies and certificates, while all the participants received participation certificates. Ashok Mhambre was offered a special token of appreciation from LESA by the tournament coordinator Lenie DoRosario.

LESA to organize Carmo memorial TT
Loyola Ex-Students Association (LESA), Margao will hold the ninth edition of the annual All Goa Major Ranking Carmo DoRosario memorial table tennis tournament on October 14. 2012 at Loyola School Hall, Margao.
Players will vie for the Rolling Trophy in memory of late Carmo do Rosario, ex-national TT player and ex-student of Loyola High School. Entries may be submitted by October 10 at B.P.S. Sports Club, Margao; Mr Ashok Mhambre or Lenie do Rosario on 9822176086 latest by October 11. The draw will be held at BPS Club, Margao on October 11.
The matches will be played on October 14 and will begin at 9am and the finals in all categories will begin from 6pm onwards. The tournament will be for the following categories: boys and girls under 10 years, under 12 years and under 15 years.
Note: Lunch packs are arranged for players, their parents and their coaches.
